An exciting cultural journey of folklore music from China to Israel. the Pipa and the Mandolin are members of the lute family. we will have a rare opportunity to listen to the virtuosic Pipa player Zhang in a Chinese pipa concerto with its wide palette of sounds and moods followed by Dorman’s Mandolin concerto, with its clear Mediterranean character played by Avi Avital. Ravel’s Mother Goose also shows Chinese inspiration. The concert will reach its peak when both soloists will join forces on stage, playing Israeli songs specially arranged for this occasion by Yaron Gottfried.

Dan Gottfried, one of the key figures of Israeli jazz and among its founding fathers, will share the stage with his son Yaron Gottfried for an evening where Classical music meets Jazz. Sweeping Jazz standards for piano & orchestra. The second half of the concert will feature Mendelssohn`s 3rd symphony inspired by his impressions during a visit to Scotland.

Pianist and conductor Arie Vardi who fascinates music lovers with his television master lectures on classical music will lead a Haydn evening, the “father” of the classical symphony. Vardi will play the Piano Concerto in D on the Hammerklavier as in Haydn’s time. He will conduct one of Haydn`s bestknown works: Symphony no. 88 as well as the short, brilliant 1st Symphony by Prokofiev, which was composed in an attempt to emulate the style of Haydn and Mozart Symphonies.

Fact and fiction are entwined in the stories dealing with the Mozart Salieri rivalry. Salieri, born in Venice, spent most of his professional life in Vienna and Maria Theresa considered him a German composer. Mozart, the ultimate Viennese genius excelled in Italian opera. Tonight we are exposed to works by both. The central work in the evening`s program is the Requiem by Mozart, his last work which he left unfinished due to his untimely death in 1791 aged 36. This masterpiece was completed by his pupil Sussmeyer.

Homage to the trumpet with Friedrich Reinhold, one of the world`s leading trumpet soloists. Eran Reemy, who plays trumpet with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra will conduct the concert and will join Reinhold in the Vivaldi Concerto for two trumpets and in Handel`s aria in a version for two trumpets. The evening will end with the festive second Brandenburg Concerto with its brilliant virtuoso trumpet part.

A unique encounter between the world famous Israeli writer Etgar Keret who will read a selection of his short fictional stories and music selected by the association they inspired. In addition we will hear a world premiere of a new work composed by Yaron Gottfried to a new story by Keret.

Three works by three generations of Spanish composers: an overture by S. Brotons, who represents the contemporary Catalan composers, Rodrigo with the Concierto that became one of the repertoire`s most famous and 6 songs by Toldra who established the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. The concert will end with Beethoven`s 8th symphony which radiates charm, lightness and humor.

Two vocal masterpieces are in the center of the season`s opening concert: Bach`s Magnificat, an exemplary praise of God as part of the Christian service and Faure`s Requiem, one of the most important in the romantic period, with a distinct French character which inspires chamber feelings of mystery and profundity.
